- How to Make It: Inflate balloons to your desired curved scale or use inverted plastic bowls covered in plastic wrap as molds. Layer soaked newspaper strips with paste over the mold, building up a sturdy thickness of at least six to eight layers. Allow it to dry completely for 48 hours. Pop the balloon or remove the mold, then trim the edges to create a clean circular or organic dish shape. Cover the entire outer surface with a thick layer of joint compound to smooth out paper textures. Sand until silky, then paint in a chalky, stone-like beige or charcoal finish.
