19. Floating Skylight Glass Patio
What This Idea Means
A sleek patio feature built directly into or above the roof of an underground base, acting as both an outdoor lounge and a massive skylight for the rooms below.
Needs to Make This Build
- Tinted Glass or Stained Glass Blocks
- Quartz Slabs / Polished Deepslate
- Water Buckets
- Glowstone or Sea Lanterns
- Flower Pots and Bamboo
How to Make It
- Cut the Roof Skylight: Excavate a large $8 \times 8$ opening in the roof of your subterranean base.
- Install Floor Glass: Fill the opening flush with the ground using Tinted Glass or Stained Glass, allowing light to pass into the room below while creating a solid floor.
- Border the Perimeter: Frame the outer perimeter with Polished Deepslate Slabs elevated one step up from the surrounding terrain.
- Build Lounge Furniture: Arrange lightweight Quartz Slabs and Trapsdoors along the non-glass edges so as not to block incoming sunlight.
- Add Flush Lighting: Frame the glass edges with flush Sea Lanterns to illuminate both the upper patio and the lower room simultaneously.
Tips and Variations
- Layered Water Feature: Run a 1-block thin layer of clear water across the top of the glass floor for a shimmering underwater skylight effect.
