14. Wooden Bead & Linen Tassel Bag Charms
What This Idea Means
Combining raw natural timber with soft, earthy linen fibers, wooden bead tassel keychains exude an effortless Scandinavian or Japandi aesthetic. Their clean textures make them ideal additions to neutral totes and key sets.
Materials Needed
- Geometric and round wooden beads (15mm to 25mm, raw or painted)
- Natural linen thread or 100% cotton embroidery skein
- Fine jute twine or wax cord (15 inches)
- Large tapestry needle
- Scissors
- A piece of stiff cardboard (3×4 inches)
- Metallic keyring with swivel hook
How to Make It
- To make the linen tassel, wrap your linen thread around a 4-inch piece of cardboard roughly 30 to 40 times.
- Slide a 10-inch piece of wax cord under the top loops on the cardboard and tie a tight double knot.
- Cut the bottom loops of the thread open and slide the bundle off the cardboard.
- Wrap another piece of thread tightly around the top neck of the bundle (about 0.75 inches from the top) to form the tassel head, securing with a knot and hiding the ends inside.
- Thread the two long top wax cord ends through a tapestry needle.
- Thread 3 to 5 wooden beads onto the cord in an alternating pattern of geometric and round shapes.
- Tie the top ends of the wax cord securely around your metal keyring clasp using a double surgeon’s knot, applying a drop of glue to lock it in place.
Tips and Variations
- Tip: Lightly rub raw wooden beads with organic coconut oil or beeswax polish to enrich their natural wood grain beauty.
- Variation: Paint subtle pastel stripes or geometric color-blocks on one of the wooden beads using matte acrylic paint.
