3. Macramé Boho Fringe & Wooden Bead Keychains

What This Idea Means

Bohemian macramé keychains highlight soft textures, artistic knot work, and organic wooden tones. Using basic macramé knots, these chic wristlets and tassels offer a serene, earth-toned aesthetic that feels grounded and cozy.

Materials Needed

  • 3mm single-strand combed cotton macramé cord (natural cream, mustard, or terracotta)
  • Unfinished natural wooden beads (12mm to 18mm)
  • Keyring clasps with integrated swivel clip
  • Sharp craft scissors
  • Fine-tooth comb or pet slicker brush
  • Masking tape or macramé board

How to Make It

  1. Cut four lengths of cotton cord, each approximately 25–30 inches long.
  2. Fold the cords in half and secure them to the base ring of your metal key clasp using Lark’s Head Knots.
  3. Secure the metal ring to your table using masking tape to hold tension while knotting.
  4. Execute a series of Square Knots or Spiral Half Knots along the center cords for 3 to 5 inches to create a structured woven pattern.
  5. Slide one or two decorative wooden beads onto the central filler cords before securing them with a final Gathered Knot (Wrapping Knot) at the base.
  6. Trim the remaining dangling cord tails uniformly to about 2 inches long.
  7. Use a fine-tooth comb to gently brush out the individual cotton fibers into a soft, fluffy bohemian fringe, trimming the bottom edge flat or into a V-shape.

Tips and Variations

  • Tip: Apply a small dab of clear fabric glue inside the wrapping knot to prevent the macramé from unraveling over heavy everyday use.
  • Variation: Dip-dye the lower fluffy fringe in natural tea or fabric dye to create a subtle ombre gradient effect.
