19. The Sinister Toy Shop

19

Tap into the universal discomfort of old, broken toys. Line shelves with cracked porcelain dolls, ventriloquist dummies with loose jaws, wind-up chattering teeth, and plush toys that have been crudely stitched back together with thick, black thread. Use a low-voltage power supply to make several wind-up toys twitch, spin, or chatter sporadically on their shelves. The centerpiece should be a large, vintage jack-in-the-box that slowly winds itself up with a metallic grinding noise, only for the lid to pop open and reveal a grotesque, hand-painted face.
