16. Yarn-Wrapped Pumpkins

8

Yarn wrapping is an exceptional activity for developing bilateral coordination and fine motor strength in young children. This cozy, tactile craft transforms simple cardboard cutouts into thick, textured pumpkins that add a warm, rustic touch to autumn home decor.

Cut out pumpkin shapes from thick, sturdy cardboard. Cut small notches around the edges of the cardboard to help keep the yarn in place. Secure the end of a long strand of orange, red, or yellow yarn to the back of the cardboard with tape. Let your child wrap the yarn around and around the pumpkin shape in various directions until the cardboard is covered. Tie off the end and tuck a small green pipe cleaner or real twig into the top to serve as the stem. The repetitive wrapping motion is calming and highly satisfying for young crafters.
